Financial aid for camps/tournaments

Each year we host a tournament or two, as well as sell some t-shirts and sweatshirts, to raise funds for our program. Because our program is continually getting better, we are needing more and more money to get to these higher end tournaments. When we raise funds, the priority will always be on the actual season - tournament entry fees, coaching stipends, equipment, etc. Extra money is used for three purposes: 1) Saved for a rainy day, in case costs go up or fundraising goes down. 2) Saved for eventual need for buying a new mat ($5,000). 3) Help wrestlers pay for camps and special qualifying tournaments.

Here is the criteria for giving out money to help families get to camps or special tournaments:

1) Each summer Coach Lee will pick a camp for the BV team to attend if possible. Each summer Coach Lee will set aside a pot of money ($500 - $1,000) to be divided equally among all the wrestlers who attend with the team. Families will pay for the camp up front, then the pot will be divided up among those who actually attended (not paid for and didn't attend). Those families will get reinbursement checks from our Wrestling Booster Club.

2) If a wrestler qualifies and attends the Senior Nationals Tournament in Virginia, the wrestling program will pay the airfare of the attending wrestler. The family will pick up the hotel costs. The program will also pay for the airfare and hotel of a single coach. The wrestler may stay with the coach to save money. (Senior Nationals Only)

3) If a wrestler qualifies for the Freestyle National Championships in Fargo, ND, the wrestling program will donate $200 to help differ costs.

4) If there is a wrestler who is extremely dedicated to the sport, and comes from a hardship situation (parents out of work/group home situation, etc.), the BV wrestling program will try to financially help  - so long as it doesn't put the regular season finances under strain. Clearly subjective, but we'll try and be fair and helpful.
