Latest Wrestling Stuff

Updated 3-23-04

**There is an updated list of which wrestlers have earned "X" amount of dollars towards summer camp under "Events", "Summer Camps". The list will be updated weekly.

** I'd like to thank all you parents for making this a great year. Thanks to all of you, we are back on our feet financially. We had so many people help in so many ways: Garth Page getting us places to stay the night for tournaments, Linda Wells getting our banquet together, The Anderson's running our snackbar, Karan Sims coordinating our dual meet volunteers, Janet Smith doing the book keeping on hours and money donated, as well as dual meet programs. Bill Stapelfeld getting our dual meets ready, Ken Schaller making all the bank runs and deposits, as well as the accounting. Katrina Ferland booking rooms for various tournaments, Nancy Krage and Kathy Stapelfeld working on our ads and programs. This doesn't even count all the other parents who worked our tournament, or sold sweatshirts, or any of the other odd jobs that needed to be filled for things to run well. The single best part of coaching is the kids and their families, hands down. Thank you for being such a great help to me this year!!!!

**Freestyle practice has started. Practices will be Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:00 - 8:00pm for the experienced middle schoolers and high schoolers. There is a practice for beginners for those with younger siblings, it's the same nights, but from 6:00 - 7:00pm. Read below about Wrestling Camp Scholarship money for going to freestyle events. More freestyle information can be found under "Events".

**Announcing our new Bella Vista Wrestling Booster Club Officers: President: Martin Tucker, Vice-President: Linda Mooney, Treasurer: Bill Stapelfeld, and Secretary: Tracy Anderson. I'd like to thank our past officers for all their help, it was greatly appreciated. Being the group that got things off the ground, it was especially considerate. I'd also like to thank these new people who were willing to step up and help our program.

**Final varsity statistics can be found under "Team Statistics". This will show the top five wrestlers in various catagories, as well as team placings and individual league champions.

**FYI - Because Matt Vigna and Nathan Page placed at Sections, they have earned the right to be permanently enshrined in our "Past Greats" catagory of this site. Congratulations - well earned!!!

**If your sons season is over please check this site occassionally for updates on 1) banquet information, 2) summer camp information and 3) summer workout information, as well as other odds and ends.

**Please do me a big favor and have your son turn in his gear to me in my room (E1) in a prompt manor. Collecting uniforms is always a hassle, it would be greatly appreciated if you could remind your sons to get it turned in.

**Summer Camp information has been updated. The camp I most want them to go to is the Azevedo/Hitchcock Camp - it's excellent. The only thing missing are the local camps. I haven't received information on them yet.

**Summer Wrestling Camp Scholarships: Our wrestling booster club is willing to pay for up to $200 of your sons summer wrestling camp if they are serious about getting better. There will be 16 freestyle practices and 6 freestyle tournaments this spring. For every practice that they attend, they'll earn $20 towards camp. For every tournament they wrestle in, they'll earn $50 towards camp. The maximum that any one wrestler can get from the booster club is $200. It doesn't have to be all tournaments or all practices, anything that they attend and wrestle at will count. They do not have to achieve the full $200 to get money. If they only go to one tournament and 4 practices, then they get $130 towards camp. This money is a reinbursement. Your family must pay for the camp upfront, the wrestler must attend the whole camp and show documentation of attendance, then the booster club will reinburse your family for what the wrestler earned in the spring. Your son may attend any wrestling camp and get reinbursed, it doesn't have to be the "Coach Lee" recommended camp. It does though have to be a wrestling camp. Outgoing seniors are not eligible for this. Incoming freshman can only qualify for this if they can show documentation of enrollment at Bella Vista.

**Next year we will no longer have the $250 & $150 donation amounts per family. Thanks to your efforts and generous donations, we are back on our feet. We will have 2 major fundraisers that should raise the yearly needed funds. The Winter Classic Wrestling Tournament and a Team Raffle. So if you can do your share helping fill needs for our tournament, then sell raffle tickets, we'll meet our financial goals. If you have an individual fundraiser you'd like to do, like several parents did this year, that would be great as well.

**FYI - Some time in the next few weeks I will publish exact amounts of money our wrestling club took in, and from where. I will also publish exactly what the money will be, or was, spent on. I want everyone to know exactly how things are financially done within the wrestling organization.
